Interesting article, thanks for posting. I was not aware of the
Judaism-as-octopus connotation, though it hardly seems like it deserves
the exclusive right to that metaphor. These days several competing
ideologies attempting to exert their influence more broadly (capitalism?
liberalism? whatever) could easily use the same imagery.

The artist says he was going for more of a "Davy Jones" from "Pirates of
the Caribbean" look, and actually that was the first thing I thought
when I saw the cartoon, so he succeeded, in my opinion. I'm writing
this off as "over-sensitive Germans" who are indeed very sensitive about
any perceived anti-Semitism, and for obvious reasons.

(Deftly avoiding Godwins Law, I now veer back onto a topic more apt for
comp.misc) :)

But hell, someone SHOULD lampoon Zuckerberg and Facebook. Facebook
sucks. It's pervasive, it's damaging, it's now proven to have
detrimental effects on young peoples' emotional and physical health, and
in its blatant attempt to surpass every useful web protocol, it is the
borg itself. I suggest we nuke it from high orbit and piss in the crater.

I reluctantly tried out Facebook for about 4 months, but deleted my
account when they wanted my cellphone number (yes, I know it was not
actually deleted). Friends who tell me "you'll have no other way to
communicate with me if you don't use it" I say "see ya later."

I rejoice at articles showing young people no longer like/use it,
preferring those crazy picture sharing sites. And the day the
mainstream media stops wanking itself silly over every little thing Zuck
says or does I'll be happy. I'm sick to death of hearing about Twitter,
too. "OMG, Twitter caused the Tunisian revolution" etc. It's so vapid.

When my revolution comes, it will be hard-wrapped at 72 spaces, thank ya
very much.

First off, with the younger generation, Facebook is becoming
passe...they are moving on to other social media.

I'm 64 years old and like it a lot as I can keep up with all my friends
and relatives who are now scattered throughout the world. Some of the
people I had lost contact with for many years and now we can keep up
with each other.

My feeling is ...if the person is on Facebook, they realize they are
going to be "public figures" so to speak. If I am trying to find a long
lost friend and they are not on Facebook, I leave it at that assuming
they want privacy.

One of the most odious aspects of the way Facebook works is that they
keep moving the goalposts on their users. Users of commercial online
services should have a legal right to have all of their data deleted,
though I daresay the "security services" would object to this. The
European Union was proposing just such a law, it may have been one of
the pro-citizen ideas which the British government sabotaged (under
orders from GCHQ?).

Do they realise that FB is going to vacuum up whatever private data
it can get its greasy little fingers on? Then collate it with whatever other
private data it's stolen from other users to draw all kinds of conclusions
that they would possibly prefer not be made?

I was on it for a time because most of the extended family is on it, but
I couldn't stand it anymore.

I'd never posted any photos or any personal info other than name and
city, but I'd get tagged in other people photos. Well, they can't tag me
if I'm not there.

> I rejoice at articles showing young people no longer like/use it,

The use it to 'talk' to their parents, grandparents, uncles, and other
Old People.

The difference is that twitter is actually useful.

Not having an account doesn't stop your "friends" from adding a tag with
your name to their photos.

Mark Zuckerberg as data kraken is as obvious as it gets

I speak just enough German to get the gist of the datenkraken article.
Awesome – way to go, Deutschland! I'm trying to imagine the Americans
undertaking a similar protest/parade and it's hard to imagine.

As for the RT article, yes - that NSA emblem is appropriate. But awful
and ironic was the sidebar advertisement with a picture of Syria's
Assad and a poll: should America invade Syria?

I don't want this group to take on that topic, since it's not germane
to comp.misc. Just thought it was ironic since the same minds who
probably think having NSA read all your email is the same hankering for
a showdown in a mideast country. Come over to dictator.mideast if you
want to discuss.
