Greetings all -

Someone worried that we were already seeing article go by with no
comments. That doesn't worry me, really - just means no one was
interested in that subject. I'm making an effort to post an article or
two in the morning while I drink my coffee, and hope others will do the
same. And I'll try to post stuff that people are interested in.

But for the sake of interest, let's hear from everyone about what kind
of articles people enjoy and what kind people don't enjoy. I doubt
we'll have a consensus here (that would actually be a bad thing) but it
will help us all post articles the group likes, and that leads to
interesting conversation.

I Enjoy:
niche, old, or innovative OSes (VMS, BeOS)
platform/architecture articles
privacy/spying stuff
most Linux/BSD articles
articles that introduce me to software I'd otherwise never have known

I Often Dislike:
political articles on tech sites (I hated the new /. section)
celebrity gossip about tech leads like Jobs, Gates
deep programming stuff (I read it anyway, but I'm not a programmer)

It doesn't even mean that. It just means nobody had anything to
broadcast to the world about it. IOW, interest doesn't equate
discussion.

I'd suggest adding discussions on mobile computing to the list
(smartphones, etc), perhaps crossposted to comp.dcom.telecom..?

I'm interested in a lot of things, sometimes even stuff that might not
be an interest of mine at the moment. The only thing I really have no
interest in at all is one that you posted:

> celebrity gossip about tech leads like Jobs, Gates

At the very least, I'll skim every top level post and decide if I want to
dig deeper... so just about any sci/tech subject is fine with me as long
as it is actually about the science or technology.

Thank you, you're keeping the group alive.

> I Often Dislike: political articles on tech sites (I hated the new /. section)
I like the YRO type of politics. Although a lot of the stories on /. were too USian,
Usenet is more international.

> celebrity gossip about tech leads
Me neither
> deep programming stuff
Sometimes this is interesting, like the thread about Reactive Programming.

Any other opinions? I'd imagined everyone posting their preferences so
we can figure out what kind of articles to feed to the group (or avoid).

If not, silence = acquiescence and you'll be seeing more of the same,
or hopefully helping feed news to this group.
