I'm looking really forward to this event. Especially two topics:

1. Samsung: Will there finally be a Tizen device?
Tizen looks to me like an attempt of Samsung to become more
independent of Google. If this takes off, it is a
quite big topic: Becoming independent of Google means in first place
to become independent of Google Services. For Google Maps, this has
direct implications for me...

# http://360.here.com

In connection with

(Tizen In Vehicle Infotainment), the maps solution used by Tizen gets
additional relevance.

I'm really looking forward to get my hands on a Tizen of SailfishOS
device. Not sure yet what my final choice would be.

2. The other big topic is of course Nokia
Unfortunately I don't have any insider knowledge, since the HERE part
of Nokia is quite separated from the mobile phone part. But reading the
rumours, it is an interesting coincidence that the mobile phone part [1]
MS plans to acquire, is rumoured to start building Android phones
without Google Play, while Microsoft is rumoured to provide Android
app support in Windows Phone. Both would probably require an Android
app-store hosted by Microsoft and would fit together beautifully and
solve two of Microsofts problems:

1. Filling any remaining gap in the Windows Phone App-offering
2. Make MS services available to emerging markets, where WP does not
stand a chance yet

Also, the Nokia CEO was, and will be again soon, an MS manager. Even
though he should be focused on Nokias well-being only at the moment, I
can hardly imagine him planning without discussing the strategy
informally with his former and future bosses. So, if there is truth to
the rumors, I assume the plans are aligned somehow.

[1] The devices business is split in mobile phones (Asha devices and
simple phones) and smart devices (Lumia phones). While MS will most
definitely try to use the smart devices business to boost their WP, it
was a bit unclear what they intend to do with the mobile phone
part. Asha devices are not bad, they get a great user experience out
of low end hardware, but still they can't execute native apps or real
Java apps, only Java ME and built-in apps.

Isn't moving from Google to Samsung a bit like getting out of your warm
bath to go jump into your furnace?

Or are you assuming Samsung won't stick their testicles--sorry,
TENTACLES--into everything they touch and fuck it up beyond recognition?

I'm not a Samsung fanboy, but Google got a bit too big in my
opinion. Samsung will neither be able to build up a search machine of
the same size as Google, nor a map-service. Apparently they try to
sell hardware, not software in the first place. In my eyes it is a
good idea to have different companies for different services.

They sell your info, already, to anyone who wants it. When I bought my
last Samsung product (as in, never buying another one), I registered it
with a unique name similar, but different, to my real name.

I get a shit-ton of spam (virtual and physical) to that fake name.

On the other hand, Google's never sold my info to anyone.
