I read the article, and I'm not sure what to make of it. Here are a few choice quotes. "combining and collectively mining structured and unstructured data" "improve the velocity and strategic value of the data-driven insights" "real-time insight into customer buying behavior within and across channels" "be able to offer promotions in context on-the-fly" So... employ massive computational resources in order to sell more stuff? I guess I just don't have what it takes to be in business. I'm interested in "big data" techniques from a technical perspective, but the purpose for its development and adoption kind of annoys me. Then again, I'm not a normal person, so this shouldn't surprise me.

You're right, the article reads like a piece custom-designed to catch the attention of search engine 'bots, and comes across like the barf of a buzzword-bingo blender.
