Good news for people who still like Blackberry, like me: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/18/blackberry_inks_deal_with_amazon_to_get_android_apps_on_its_mobes/ //-- clip Blackberry has reached a licensing agreement with Amazon to allow BlackBerry users access to the Amazon Appstore. Amazon's store won't replace the BlackBerry World store and it won't offer native BlackBerry apps. Rather, it will make available the more than 200,000 Android apps Amazon offers to BlackBerry 10 users as direct downloads. BlackBerry fans have been abuzz about the platform's its Android compatibility layer since late last year and the company began rolling it out as part of an official OS update in January. But BlackBerry itself hasn't exactly been crowing about it; in fact, the blog post announcing the OS release that included it didn't even mention it. //-- clip This is awesome news. I've got a bold 9900 and still love it. Hardware-wise, it's a way better designed machine than my Samsung/Android. Charges just by resting it in a cradle (don't have to set it "just right" on a USB connector), I still prefer the real keyboard, and its menu-flow is far better than Android's. But the Android has better apps and a way better screen. This might be the missing link for people like me - an easy way to run Android apps on Blackberry hardware without simply Blackberry ditching its OS and using Android (which wouldn't solve the menu-flow problem). -- RS Wood <rsw@therandymon.com>

I assume you realise that this only applies to BB10 devices? > This might be the > missing link for people like me - an easy way to run Android apps on > Blackberry hardware Only if you buy a Z10, Z30 or Q10. > without simply Blackberry ditching its OS and using > Android (which wouldn't solve the menu-flow problem). Oh, and my Z10 (which I rather like), won't run Android software, even though it's supposed to. Sigh. (BTW, BB are also closing the Video & Music parts of their App Store as part of this. I assume that's what Amazon are getting out of it ...) -- Today is Setting Orange, the 24th day of Confusion in the YOLD 3180 "I do not believe in revealed religion — I will have nothing to do with your immortality; we are miserable enough in this life, without speculating on another." Mine is corporate so I'd have to buy my own device anyway. I do like the looks of the Z10 though and I confess the Q10 keyboard still catches my eye. I wasn't aware of the other half of the deal BB has signed with the devil, but I'm not surprised, either. Amazon is launching its own phone too - should be a strange, mixed marriage.
