I use a Mac Mini which is quite small.

Oh yes I think I have seen one of those. They are rather expensive
though.

I did that for a few years myself and up until about 18 months ago I
went back to a desktop for my @home work. OMGF am I glad I did. I
forgot how much better a real full size keyboard is. I bought a cherry
blue switch keyboard. 

I also got a modest video card. One of the few games I play is Nexuiz
and I easily get 400 fps @ 2560 x 1080. 

And speaking of displays, I have a nice 25" LG ultra wide 2560 x 1080
display. The tower is silent, easy to open, easy to swap the hard drive,
upgrade the video card or add memory. 

For my next desktop maybe I'll go with duel 8 core xeons. Nice to have a
desktop.

So did I for a year or two (and it was a small netbook-size model).

However, I used it with a full-size keyboard, full-size mouse, AC cord, 
normal monitor, ethernet etc plugged into it. So it was indistinguishable in 
use from a desktop PC (the latter might have been more powerful).

The advantage was, if I had to travel anywhere, everything I needed was 
already on it.
