Slightly OT, but an interesting blog about the dirty tricks web designers use to
trick users into buying more than they intended.

The author has a catalogue of examples at http://darkpatterns.org/

This looks great, but I'm absolutely unable to get to the Pando website
- not the first time I've had trouble with them. Is anyone else having
trouble? Is their site down, crushed with the mass of hundreds of
thousands of comp.miscers DOSing their system?

Works for me. Maybe your IP or country is blocked? Does it work through a proxy?

I'll give it a try. Blocking IP addresses by geographical region is the
stupidest idea ever for most stuff. From here in Senegal I can't even
get onto the Netflix webpage for example. So much for buying mom and
dad a subscription for Xmas. F.U. Netflix!

That's the best name ever for a VPN provider, by the way.

I'm also looking at flashrouters.com (I think that's the URL). They
sell routers with opensource VPN software on it so I can extend a VPN
connection to the rest of my household.

It looks like they just flash open source firmware and resell them.
Why not do it yourself? Flashing a router's firmware takes < 10
minutes.

I use DD-WRT everywhere, and love it. It gives you all the
functionality you could ever want, and it's super easy to use
(unlike most stock firmware). Setting up a VPN couldn't be easier.

It ain't just out-of-the-way places like Senegal. I regularly have problems
ordering stuff for my Mother, who lives in the USA, from here in the UK.
