Oh man... the comments at Reddit regarding this are just priceless.

My top 10 favourites (from about 50):

"Yes! This is absolutely ridiculous... but I am intrigued and would read
the shit out of this. It's almost as crazy as writing server side code in
something wacky like javascript... oh wait..."

"No! You should compile Assembly to Javascript."

"As someone who's developing in XSLT and javascript as well as assembly
right now, I'd prefer the farkin assembler."

"Is it just me or does XSLT suck at recursion?"

"Is it just me or does XSLT suck at recursion?" (yes, it was posted again)

"If the Nazis had encrypted their communication in XSLT during WW2 they
would have won."

"Its not that hard you casuals."

"I'm sure there's some company out there that's been hobbling along for a
couple decades with a web server written entirely in MS Word using VB
macros."

"Oh, the Chimera Book is a must read."

"I'll keep sending them an e-mail about this every single day until they
release the book."

A personal note: I would *definitely* read such a book! :)

Regards,
Bill

Speaking as someone who once wrote a reporting program in MACRO-11, my
response is "So?"

(It was the only language I knew on the platform they wanted to run on and
they wanted it quickly. I wrote some macros that performed fundamentals
and wrote the program using those macros.)

They are pretty funny. I also like the book's by-line: "you may as well
just kill yourself right now." You saw me write elsewhere I'm not a
programmer so have no basis to judge, but I once dabbled in whatever
brand of assembly ran on the Commodore 64, and I found it fascinating.
It interests me far more than high level languages do, though I seem to
have no aptitude for it. I can only assume the guys who wrote kontiki
(?) web server for the C-64 did the whole thing in assembly; what else
would be small enough to fit in those 64K?

For those that like this sort of humor, there's a whole series of fake
"Hayes mechanic manuals" for the Death Star, the At-At, and Y-Wing, and
so on ... good stuff. You'd think a better Death Star mechanic would
have been on top of the "exhaust port" thing. Probably some grizzled
old mechanic warned his boss but was ignored ... way of the world.
