From the «wonder twins, activate!» department: Title: Interactive Gloves Turn Gestures into Music Author: James Hobson Date: Thu, 17 Apr 2014 22:00:06 -0400 Link: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/hackaday/LgoM/~3/JyXxoVZ5r_M/ Podcast Download URL: http://hackadaycom.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/gloves.jpg?w=580 [image 1] [Imogen Heap] is a UK-based musician who is trying to change the way we think about making music. She’s been working on a pair of gloves called the Mi.Mu[2] , and they’re getting close to production. In the included interview she explains that while computers and technology have brought many new advances to music, twiddling dials and pushing random buttons “is not very exciting for me, or the audience”. With these gloves, the artist becomes one with the music and interaction. The current iteration of gloves use flex sensors along each finger to determine the movement (along with motion sensors for other gestures). She’s been through many designs and hopes to integrate e-materials into the next — using the actual glove as the sensor (not physical flex sensors). She’s been working with both developers and musicians mapping the various motions of the gloves to music which makes sense in an intuitive way, and it’s very unique to see in action. [Imogen Heap] was also on Letterman[3] a few years ago! For more information about the Mi.Mu gloves, she has a website under construction, but offers an email signup mailing list.[4] [Thanks Aaron!] Filed under: musical hacks[5][image 6][image 7][image 8] Links: [1]: http://hackadaycom.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/gloves.jpg?w=580&h=327 (image) [2]: http://www.dezeen.com/2014/03/20/imogen-heap-funding-drive-for-gloves-that-turn-gestures-into-music/ (link) [3]: http://hackaday.com/2009/09/08/monome-mainstream-performance-on-letterman/ (link) [4]: http://www.mimu.org.uk/ (link) [5]: http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/hackadaycom.wordpress.com/120142/ (link) [6]: http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/hackadaycom.wordpress.com/120142/ (image) [7]: http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=hackaday.com&blog=4779443&post=120142&subd=hackadaycom&ref=&feed=1 (image) [8]: http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/hackaday/LgoM/~4/JyXxoVZ5r_M (image)
