Bit of a step down from former positions, if you ask me. They were right, of course: we're all headed to a browser-rich world, and its name is probably "Chrome" unless someone provides an alternative. In an alternate universe I'd be looking to Microsoft to provide a competing solution: they're clearly rich enough in money and technical staff to be able to take on a challenge like this. Too bad under Ballmer they were focused only on preserving the Office/Win monopoly, and this clearly would take a huge wooden stake and drive it through that monopoly's heart. Sad though when you think about how many orders of magnitude greater resources are required in order to accomplish things that were basically accomplished on "primitive" (I use the word tongue in cheek) time-sharing systems of the 1970s. Imagine how many layers of abstraction go into a Word Processor running on Javascript, for example.
