We deal primarily with hacking in the postscript language, but occasionally
branch into related topics like geometry, general programming, emulating
other languages' features in ps, pdfmarks, etc.

from the StackOverflow Postscript tag info page,
http://stackoverflow.com/tags/postscript/info

PostScript is a Turing-complete page description programming language, designed and developed by Adobe. There are three major releases of PostScript.

1. **PostScript Level 1** — this was released to the market in 1984 as the resident operating system of the Apple LaserWriter laser printer, inaugurating the Desktop Publishing Era.
2. **PostScript Level 2** — released in 1991, this contained several important improvements to Level 1, including support for image decompression, in-RIP separation, auto-growing dictionaries, garbage collection, Named Resources, binary encodings of the PostScript program stream itself.
3. **PostScript 3** — the latest and perhaps most widely adopted version was released in 1997. It too contains several import improvements over Level 2 such as Smooth Shading. The term “level” has been dropped.

PostScript is typically used as a page description language, although it can also be used for other purposes.

In my view, "but" should be changed to "and" here.

Very nice compilation of links!

All the best,

I know you're eager to see your change, but rest assured
it will be applied for July edition.

I suppose you mean "*and* rest assured" ;-)

Thank you!

What happened to the welcome message? I think this is a very nice
collection of links and hope you continue posting it.

All the best!

Yes. We discussed this a little bit over a year ago.
The plan is to re-post this every 6 months, on or around
Jan 1 and July 1. Any updates or new links can be added
directly to the Stackoverflow tag info page, and I'll
use that as the template for the message.

That's this,
 http://stackoverflow.com/tags/postscript/info
right???
(And ditto to Triska's snipped remark: very nice! Thanks.)

Yes, exactly! Edits can be applied by all SO users
and even by anonymous users (passing through a review
process, of course).

Incidentally, SO needs more postscript programming
questions. Ken and I have a bit of a race going for
number of answers. But he covers nearly all of the
ghostscript questions incidentally tagged postscript.

With more postscript language questions, I could
conceivably get the silver badge before Ken.
In reality, he's totally going to beat me.

As stated above, you're quite welcome!
