Hi,
I've recently started experimenting with small roll-fed thermal printers,
a bit like this one: <https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10438>. They all
understand variants of Epson ESC-POS, which in turn is very similar to
the ESC-P and ESC-P/2 command sets of Epson's older impact printers.
Ghostscript's uniprint driver - http://ghostscript.com/doc/7.07/
Devices.htm#Uniprint - looks perfect for supporting these little devices.
Unfortunately, there's precious little documentation on this elderly
"community supported" driver. Particularly:
* There's little explanation of the upOutputFormat option
* most of the parameters for terms like margins and print density are
only hinted at, and never explained. Unsetting them, or removing them
causes the output to fail.
These thermal printers are incredibly simple: 384 monochrome pixels
across, 8 pixels/mm, effectively unlimited print length; printed (slowly,
at 9600 baud) as 24 pixel deep by up to 384 pixel wide band.
Any suggestions, please, as to where I might find clearer guidelines?
thanks,
Stewart
(if anyone wishes to print to these from a bitmap, I wrote a little
Python filter that should work on most of them: https://gist.github.com/

That's quite a treasure-trove :-) . Cheers, -- tlvp -- Avant de repondre, jeter la poubelle, SVP.
