#2962 — where to report bugs for ghostscript?

Hi there,

I have encountered a bug (may be not) in ghostscript 9.20. It relates to
Chinese characters.

I produced a postscript document (.ps) from LaTeX, and then converted it
to a PDF document (.pdf). With ghostscript 9.16 or ghostscript 9.18, I
can get a PDF document in which the text could be copied and pasted
correctly. However, with ghostscript 9.20, the text that copied from the
PDF file were not Chinese, something like इଅค̇ ࠅഅਇคค ؇ଅइ.

Anyone here could tell me where and how to report a bug with this?

Any suggestion will be really appreciated.

Best,
Jinsong

You can never guarantee getting text out of a PDF file, especially when
it is converted from PostScript.

The only way to guarantee getting reliable text from a PDF file is if it
has a ToUnicode CMap. Creating one of those requires knowing which
character codes map to what Unicode code points, and there is no
mechanism for doing that in PostScript.

There are various heuristics for attempting to work around this, but
they are no 100% reliable.

Note that you should probabl;y try the current code, there have been
some changes since the release of 9.20. For example, this commit

http://git.ghostscript.com/?
p=ghostpdl.git;a=commit;h=a8642064fe21752b00e28d05483baca029fe0891

looks relevant.

That is correct

Indeed you do.

We have occasionally had problems with people who think its clever to
try and hack the server by uploading malicious attachments, or spam
Bugzilla with advertising etc.

So we insist on an email address, and then we simply cut off offenders.
