#2275 — Trouble downloading Ghostscript 9.16

Hi,

I am running Ghostscript 8.53 (2005-10-20),
so decided it was time to upgrade to the
latest version.

Unfortunately, when I try to download the
file:
http://downloads.ghostscript.com/public/gs916w32.exe

it aborts after only a few percent of the
file has been downloaded. I have tried this
a dozen times now, with the same result.

Is there a mirror site for this file?

Many thanks,

Huh. It downloaded wholly on the first try for me:

/tmp$ wget 'http://downloads.ghostscript.com/public/gs916w32.exe'

If it is still failing for you, the problem might be at your end;
perhaps you could try downloading it to some other host and using rsync
or suchlike to get it to its final destination.

(I'm sure it must be mirrored elsewhere, I just don't know where
either!)

I eventually found a copy at:
ftp://ftp.uibk.ac.at/pub/software/win32/gs916w32.exe

It downloads fine from this FTP host, so
there must be an incompatibility between my
client and the original HTTP host. Welcome
to the wonderful world of computing.

and, what kind of client would that be?
on what OS?

Opera 10.10 under Windows 95. (There are
not many of us left.)

It turned out that I actually needed
Ghostscript 8.60. I also discovered:
     http://www.filewatcher.com/

which is wonderful. This also lets me use
an FTP client, which seems to be a lot more
robust (read the label on the packet; "File
Transfer Protocol").
