I'm wondering if anyone knows how the FAQ thing works. We seem to have
one out there on the net associated with this newsgroup. But it has
not been updated in a long time.

And what about setting up a periodic automatic posting to the group?
Despite my efforts, we're still pretty low-volume. My list of topics
goes back to May before I have to start scrolling. So how about
something like every 6 months? January 1 & July 1.

And can we connect it to some kind of wiki, so we can update it?

Anybody know?

This one? ftp://ftp.cs.brown.edu/pub/comp.lang.postscript/FAQ.txt

It has contact details at the bottom for Jon Monsarrat.

Just reading it all now. But posting a link on the group periodically
seems a good idea to me.

I think it's pretty unlikely that Jon is still using that email address.

Someone should take it over.

The FTP link given above cites a moderated NG comp.sources.postscript which
my current NSP doesn't offer. Is that group simply extinct? Or should I bug
my NSP to try to procure it for his spools? Thanks for your best advice.

I seriously doubt *any* of the comp.sources.* hierarchy are *not* extinct.
Long extinct. Like, pre-preCambrian extinct.

The archives are available through googlegroups.

Yes ... and seem to stop sometime in 1995 unless I've overlooked something.

Maybe that's when the moderator went missing? I know a bit about Usenet
administration, so I went to the control message archive:

ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/control-old/comp/comp.sources.postscript.Z

It was voted on in Feb 1993 and created Feb 23, 1993.

Group submission address: postscript@cs.brown.edu
Moderator contact address: postscript-request@cs.brown.edu
                                                        (Jonathan Monsarrat)

The ftp.isc.org archive is not as thorough as the old ftp.uu.net
archive, which I tried to reach today but could not. It has only
'newgroup' messages, not 'rmgroup'.

The current 'active' list at ftp.isc.org lists only these sources groups
as still in existence:

ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/CONFIG/active.gz

comp.sources.bugs 0000000000 0000000001 y
comp.sources.d 0000000000 0000000001 y
comp.sources.games 0000000000 0000000001 m
comp.sources.testers 0000000000 0000000001 y
comp.sources.wanted 0000000000 0000000001 y

I do remember the comp.sources.* groups getting a massive clean out a
few years ago.

Well, I want to play again with postscript. I do not have to be afraid
to post questions here then. :-D

No, indeed. Your questions are great! Keep 'em coming.

Dammit. Did I really misspell the subject
of this thread? N and R are nowhere near
each other on my qwerty keyboard.
I don't know what I can say for myself.
Is my subconscious telling me something?

On the other hand, maybe the old one's fine as is.
There is this newer one,

   http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/PostScript_FAQ

which, as the link suggests, is an editable wiki.

And StackOverflow can also be used as a "share your
knowledge" platform, as I've done here

   http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15997536/how-do-you-keep-the-roll-operator-straight

http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2011/07/its-ok-to-ask-and-answer-your-own-questions/
