I just got HP OfficeJet Pro X476DW. Postscript seems to be quite OK
after some basic testing. Printer is fast and scanner has working
autofeeder with duplex support.

However, on Postscript side, any operators which are supposed to print
back using print, ==, pstack etc. operators, produce no data back to the
TCP channel. I used the normal "telnet printer-IP-address 9100" way to
connect.

Does anyone know more about this? Is it common to disable the feedback
channel totally. I have some scripts which have used this in the past.

I've never heard of disabling the back channel. But Postscript 3 makes
lots of system parameters accessible to the script. There may be one
that does this. Or it may be something you need to enable from the
front panel, like printing error reports on paper.

There might be a config setting which affects whether port 9100 is
bidirectional.

I seem to recall seeing such on another printer at some point, but the
memory is vague. Something along the lines of which class of 1284 it
should emulate?

If there is, it is not visible to any user accessible menus.

I don't think they would still have any LPT compatibility as HP printers
hav not had parallel interfaces for many years. And earlier models,
even from 1990s didn't have any LPT emulation visible in their Jetdirect
interfaces.

I opened a support case for this. I will tell here how it goes.

And now they closed the case, without any comments. Quite rude, I
think. I had to phone them to reopen the case.
