I am a newbie concerning postscript. I like to experiment with text
effect. Put if I search in Google (with postscript or ps), I get
mostly photoshop results. What are good resources to learn about text
(or graphical) effects?

You might find various issues of the Acumen Journal helpful. Over the
years it's accumulated articles on a lot of text-related topics, such
as creating outline fonts, adding characters to a font, vertically
centering text, etc. There more than sixty of these, free for the
downloading, at www.acumentraining.com/acumenjournal.html
