I just got a HPLJ 2420 with a slot for Compact Flash cards. I put one in and initialized it, and would like to put some PS fonts on it. The only way I've found to do this is using HP's "Web JetAdmin", but I cannot get it to work. So is there another way? First I'd need to know what file formats it uses. PFA? If anyone has a commercial CF font card, could you have a look at it and say how it's organised? I presume the printer would read it and add any fonts it finds there on booting. Then I'd have to get the file onto the card. I could put the card in a card reader; possible complication is I think it uses a weird disk format. Or I could find JPL commands to do it in the printer. I tried the printer's web interface, but it provides no way to upload fonts. Any file sent to it by ftp is simply printed. If anyone has any clues about this, please advise. I found a promising app, "Xerox Font Management Utility" which sees all the printers installed, but the option to manage flash memory for this printer is greyed out; possibly it needs to be told there is a flash card in the machine? Can't see how to do that.

OK, one step: I can use PJL to move files to and from the CF card. -- using the free app from http://www.pclparaphernalia.eu/ But still canont work out what the fiels shoud be. I tried pfa fonts, pfb, tried the same format as when I load fonts into RAM: 0 serverdict begin exitserver -- followed by the font in PFA. named as .pfa, .ps Still, the printer ignored them. Since you were able to buy fonts on a CF card, there must be a convention of folders, filenames, formats that will be read by the printer when it boots to install these fonts. Does anyone have one of these cards and can check or have any ideas?
