The advice he gave you is right on the mark. You need to test on your own system with your own data. Many things affect performance. I've had multi-gigabit databases with sub-second response times. I've also seen small databases with multi-minute response times. It's all in the design of the database, the tuning of the server and the architecture it's running on. But with your attitude you aren't going to get any help here.
