No - you got you "ass kicked around", because you tell others they are ignorant even after you clearly demonstrated that you are not able to understand what "software development" means at all. "IMO, mysql is kind of a subset of php."... oh my... It seems you are just mentally not able to understand the principles of software development and databases (and many other topics). That's ok, not everybody is a good software developer, web designer etc. - but then don't try to tell others why their explanations are ignorant, false or whatever. > I get laughed at because my simple table, is uh well, to simple for you > highly normalised asswipes to comprehend. > What is so damned wrong with a table where the column names are songid, > hits, title, artist? > Care to explain to me how this should be "normalised"? > You guys keep speaking of normalised yet never define it and never show an > example. READ HERE: <http://www.studytonight.com/dbms/database-normalization.php> <http://databases.about.com/od/specificproducts/a/normalization.htm> If you don't understand that, it's YOUR problem, not theirs. BTW: This has also been discussed several times. > As for Gabe, I won't do business with him because with his offer, it sounds > like he really doesn't have the expertise required to do the job I want > done. Based on your nearly non-existing knowledge about technical topics concerning PHP and databases your are simply not able to judge the expertise. -- Arno Welzel http://arnowelzel.de http://de-rec-fahrrad.de

I am entirely, morbidly curious as to what this group is really all about. Every post I have read in here seems to be about richard or from richard. Is there any actual PHP discussion, or is this a dead board relegated to richard-bashing? And another question: why does richard keep coming back here? I think I smell some masochism, woof. Thanks for the shock and laughs -- Jenna

I would bet there's years-worth of the richard issue. It's unfortunate. If I ever need help, I'll come here an ask a valid question for you all to chew over. :)

Or everybody else learned enough to at least answer their own questions
most of the time... (:

I think its is handy when discussing obscure elements of PHP, but realistically most people achieve a level of comfort with it fairly quickly. richard is the exception that proves the rule. In 5 years he hasn't actually written a working program -- Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

This could be a useful ng but it suffers from what every ng suffers from: lack of ultimate control. From time to time we also suffer from the ministrations of PointyHead, which I'm sure puts off a lots of less experienced people who may have genuine questions. However he mostly bothers the javascript ng, where he spends his time teaching us how to spell javascript and counting the angels on pinheads. Me, I've subscribed to the PHP Users mailing list, which is much more sedate and useful, as things stand. > And another question: why does richard keep coming back here? I think I smell > some masochism, woof. He is a boor. He can't code and keeps coming back with the same tommy-rot. Something doesn't work and he never spends any time asking himself "What simple errors do I keep making? Have I made one of those this time?" and so on. And he never thanks anyone for the actual help they give. > > Thanks for the shock and laughs -- > Jenna -- "I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend.... if you have one." - GB Shaw to Churchill "Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second... if there is one." - Winston Churchill, in response.

Hi Jenna and welcome, When I first cut my teeth in PHP and MySQL a couple of years agoI got a lot of very good advice here and in c.d.m., often from the same people in the two groups IYSWIM. My experience is that if you 1. Try to do it yourself and explain what you are trying to achieve and what errors you get and 2. Take the advice and learn from it then people in this group and c.d.m. are very helpful. Unfortunately Richard is pretty good (mostly) at 1. and very poor (always) at 2. 'Mr. Stuckle' was one of the most courteous and helpful to this learner and I publicly thank him yet again. Derek.
