Even in 1993 there where less then 200 web sites world wide and Yahoo started in 1994 with about 2800 web sites world wide. So don't tell you started "web development" in 1991 - this is just impossible. > But if you claim you know "developers" who have done "web development" > for years, then you don't know real developers. > > I have around 47 years of programming total, in close to 20 different > language (including 13 years at IBM). What do your "developers" have? Knowledge in PHP - the topic of this group. Other languages are not the topic here. And what is "close to 20 different languages"? Either you know 20 languages or you don't. What do you try to tell us? "Mine is bigger than yours"? BTW - I had my first software publication at the age of 17 and got the the "listing of the month" price for it - an assembler written in 6502 machine code resident in memory for 8 bit Atari machines: <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/ck1986-1011.jpg> In the 1990ies during my first employment as a software developer I created an alternative graphical desktop environment for Atari ST/TT machines in C: <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/thing.png> The code is still available under the GPL today: <http://atariforge.org/gf/project/thing/scmsvn/> And besides 6502 machine language, C, C++, C#, PHP etc. I also work with Java to develop Android apps, also one in my spare time and translated in many languages: <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.arnowelzel.android.periodical> <https://github.com/arnowelzel/periodical> And some of my private PHP projects: <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/en/projects/flashplayer-for-dokuwiki> <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/en/projects/wordpress/multicolumn-category-widget> <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/en/tools/spoke-length-calculator> <http://playground.arnowelzel.de/> And JavaScript: <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/en/tools/gpx-viewer> And and example in JavaScript combined with server side stuff to show the use of web sockets: <https://arnowelzel.de/tools/chat/> A database query in PHP and generating a chart using JavaScript and an HTML5 canvas: <http://arnowelzel.de/wp/en/tools/statistics> And some of the web sites I run (some of them for many years now): <http://arnowelzel.de> <http://de-rec-fahrrad.de> <http://criticalmass-augsburg.de> So - where are your examples of your work? Do you even have a website as an example of your expertise? I don't know of any so far. Any publications? -- Arno Welzel http://arnowelzel.de http://de-rec-fahrrad.de http://fahrradzukunft.de

To be fair, he did not say “in 1991”, but “in *about* 1991”. Have mercy with the grumpy old man, he is thinking in decades already. You see, he just barely remembered that in the 1990s he learned what he thinks is Web development, and guessed the year just slightly wrong :-> -- PointedEars Zend Certified PHP Engineer Twitter: @PointedEars2 Please do not cc me. / Bitte keine Kopien per E-Mail.

ROFLMAO! Unlike you, I've worked with Magento. They're good for what they do - I admit that. But they are a CMS - nothing more, nothing less. | Again, that is something better enabled for the whole site (in index.php,
| which should trigger almost everything else)

I have whole web applications without database backend running "through index.php". And my code is primarily stored in so-called controllers or so-called services. (What's "code stored in a database" supposed to be, anyway?) Since this is the approach of quite a few (if not most) major web application frameworks out there - everyone using such one relies on "crappy programming"? Since you consider it "crappy programming" - can you explain *why*? Gregor
