I was assuming he wanted the variable in a script on the client, and that was why he was trying to pass it from page to page without using server side code. I may have been over-thinking things. :) i.e I'm reading his request as looking for a method of maintaining some sort of state information on the client side when using e.g. free hosting that doesn't allow for any sort of server side scripting.
