That appears to be exaggerated.

Maybe because PDO is attempting to (is going to?) support MSSQL with 
PDO_DBLIB and has a much cleaner and more compatible interface (have you 
ever tried to port code from mssql_* to mysql_*? BTDT, nightmare):
