I would never recommend someone without experience to run his/her own
server - although there are also "managed" servers where the hoster
takes care for security updates etc..

On the other hand: Building a public website based on PHP or running any
kind of PHP based application without a lot of experience is not a good
idea either. Just remember the recent security problems in Drupal.

Anyway: the first list on Github I mentioned lists at least 18 services
where you can host your own Node.js stuff without setting up and
maintaining your own server. This I would definitely call more than "one
or two".
