In its absoluteness, incorrect, and missing the point.  Instead, it is 
strongly recommended to update (apt-get update; apt-get upgrade) to the 
latest version of the corresponding PHP release, in this case PHP 5.5.17.

Since Ubuntu 14.04 LTS was released on 2014-04-17, the PHP version it 
features by default cannot be later than 5.5.11, which, among regular 
bugfixes, does not include 5 (important) security fixes released later:
