#16414 — How to simulate buttons pressed

Message-ID<506ee544$0$21946$426a34cc@news.free.fr>
On my page http://www.jmrw.com/Chess/Tableau_echecs/index.htm

I want to simulate the buttons are pressed as on a radioset.

So when I click the ">" button, it should appear as pressed, and then when I
click on the button "stop" it should return to its original appearance.

I searched the net but have not found anything convincing.

thank you

You can try to set element.style.backgroundColor e.g.

<form>
   <input name="forward" type="button" value="►"
onclick="this.style.backgroundColor = 'lightgrey';">
   <input type="button" value="■"
onclick="this.form.elements.forward.style.backgroundColor = '';">
</form>

but using CSS on form controls might look different depending on the
browser and the OS.

Usually, like Martin said, you'd need to change the borders of the button onclick, as in -> http://www.webdevout.net/test?01i&raw
I've used 'inset' and 'outset' in that case for the effect.

So why ask,
such difficulty should surly be measured according to your skill?

> but how to do?

Presuming you want to have different texts under different images,
with a step 6 incrementing counter ok it?
[with a fixed text it is just html and off topic here in this NG]

You could make a seperate <div> that you fill at the same time with a text
from a database or array, as you change the image.

Please do not ask us to do your coding from scratch.

I made a div :         <DIV id="legende" style="border:1px solid;
width:1000px; height:20px"></DIV>

I try to fill it with : function fill_div()
{document.getElementById('legende').innerHTML=listeOeuvres[6*Compteur+1]};

It doesn't work probably beaucause it is completly supid.

Please be patient : this is a picture of me :

The listeOeuvres[6*Compteur+1] is a text literal, it needs "" or '' round
it.

The ";" comes after the line of javascript inside the function.

Try:

// code starts here -->

function fill_div() {
  document.getElementById('legende').innerHTML = "listeOeuvres[6*Compteur
+1]";
}

// <-- code ends here

What browser are you using? Try to find out how to access the place
where it shows script errors, most browsers today have that. In firefox
you can press Ctrl+Shift+J to open its error console for example.

With your original fill_div function in the code it should say something
like "Compteur is not defined", because names in this language are
case-sensitive and you only defined 'compteur'.

Yes, that is what you said you wanted it to do.

You did not say "I want to write an element of the listOeuvres array
whose index is calculated as 6*Compteur+1 on my page."

I may be able to correctly interpret some badly written questions, but I
can't guarantee to correctly interpret all of them.

Thanks to this very helpful NG, my sideshow works.
http://www.jmrw.com/France/Strasbourg/diaporama/index.htm

Thanks having been patient. The first time you demand help of a NG you
are awkward.

The very last problem that doesn't concern this NG is that the sound
solution of Dewplayer the way I used it does not work with IE 8 & 9
although it works with IE10 and all other browsers tested.

Indeed.

Better ask for help, don't demand help.

to demand = exiger, revendiquer, ordonner, insister

to ask = demander, solliciter, poser des questions

et surtout les "faux-amis"

Why english people doesn't use "demand" as we do so in french ???

I ask it to you !

(ask ... what a strange word !
  what that could mean ? All Seems Killed ?)

Note to Evertjan :
Google translates 'demand'(en) in 'demande'(fr) by default

This translation is 100% *wrong*. "Demand" (en) is *very* strong; if you
use that you will have trouble. You should use "ask" - Evertjan is quite
right.

Note: this mistranslation is not uncommon, so don't worry :-)

People is plural in this sense!

Why do French people speak French?

and not:

Why does French people speak French?

Why should they?

English being AngloSaxon covered with some French sauce,
the latter introduced by conquering Normandian nobility.

"áscian" is the AngloSaxon form of a common Germanic verb.

Comme là je ne comprends rien à rien !
(du charabia, du latin, de l'anglais, tout ça mélangé ...)
J'ai demandé "ask" dans le champs de recherche et ça me dit :
	« acsian, acsigan; p. ode; pp. od To ask, ask for, demand »

soit les 3 "nuances" à la fois :
	ask
	ask for
	demand

Nous voilà bien avancés !
