#15521 — dynamic before content causes line break in Safari

I have this CSS:

   li.marked:before {
     content: "+ ";
   }

I have Javascript code that puts "marked" on list items.

The problem: A line break appears right after the +
   - in Safari (MacOS and Windows)
   - when "marked" is added dynamically
   - and there's a nested list in the list item

I have a pretty minimal single file example here:

   http://www.cs.northwestern.edu/~riesbeck/demo/content-bug.html

The first list is marked dynamically and gets the line breaks on list
items with nested lists. The second list has static "marked" items and
looks fine.

The W3 validator just warns about HTML5 being experimental.

Have I wondered into non-standard land? Or is this a known Safari bug?

As far as I can tell after a quick comparison of the rendering in
current versions of IE, FF, Chrome and Safari on Windows 7 this looks
like a bug in Safari. Whether it is known I haven't checked, I am not
even sure whether https://bugs.webkit.org/ is the right place to look.
Perhaps someone else reading here is doing some bug reporting on Safari
and can help assessing whether that is a known issue. Or you could
simply report your test case with the item in the help menu (my German
version has "Fehler an Apple melden" so an English version of Safari
will probably have something like "report problem to Apple").

Indeed, that exact bug is there at webkit.org

    https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67033

Thanks... at least I know I'm not alone
