Hi,
This is quite unsettling. I have a template that displays some text and at top it has some text editing features such as Bold, Italic etc. The template has been working for 3 years in a row. But all of a sudden, started this morning,
the text editing icons no longer showing up. For instance, element with id of "MakeBold" as shown below, no longer show the bold.gif image for the button (and yes, the "icons" folder/directory does exist under the current directory, and yes, the bold.gif image icon does exist as well; and yes, the RichText js function has been defined).
<form id="editForm" name="editForm" action="someserverscript" method="post">
...
<input type="button" id="MakeBold" accesskey="B" onclick="RichText('bold')"
style="background-image:url('icons/bold.gif');width:25;height:23" />
...
</form>
I posted another question titled "How to determine and to prevent javascript being hacked?" a few days ago... which also seems a mysterious new issue.
If the perpetrator is a government sanctioned criminal then I have no way to beat such evil. Hope I'm wrong.

Which government are you talking about? Why would a government support a
criminal? Why would a criminal break your form?
And what does all of this have to do with the topic of this newsgroup –
ECMAScript-based programming?

Your inline style is not Valid: CSS lengths different from 0 have to have a
unit; here probably “px”: “25px” and “23px”.
Also, formatting input[type="button"] elements this way is unreliable; use
button[type="button"] elements instead.
It is not surprising that code that is not standards-compliant and is error-
prone stops working after a browser update.

So much for that.

Are the image files still good and not corrupted? Have you actually checked that you're not using a different RichText version? Or even a broken one? Have you checked RichText documentations and changelogs and discussions? Have you checked for any error log? Why didn't you do all of these troubleshooting standard issues?

Browsers automatically update to implement new features, remain secure, and become more standards compliant. So your code will very likely act differently after time because of the reasons already posted by PointedEars. There is also a remote chance that it may be an issue with your cache, as that sometimes can get corrupted locally. Try loading your page without your cache ([Ctrl] + [F5] for Firefox, IE, and Chrome... [Shift] + [F5] for Opera.) -- The arch foe
