Hello,

My question is presented in the following web page:

http://www.pinyinology.com/wheel/jieDa/fortune4t.html

I believe it is a piece of cake for many programmers here. Thanks for your help.

A question for a non-programmer <-- ??

Is this a query for a non-programmer or FROM a non-programmer?

If so, I can't quite make the question from that webpage

It is from me, a non programmer. It is not for a non programmer. Sorry for the confusion. I wish to ask the question in a better way, but have no idea what to do. Thanks again.

1) The document shouldn't need a "<form></form> to wrap input elements
that are not actually submitted as a form using post or get request. Such
form elements just need placing in a suitable block level container.

2) The two un-named forms both contain inputs called name1 and name2. It
might be better to give these inputs unique names and ids within the
document if they need identification.

3) You appear to use js code to write out the grids that creates two
grids that may contain spans having the same id attribute as the
equivalent span in another grid. This is very bad. A document should only
contain one element with any given id.

4) I suspect that code has been copied from one location to another
location without changing all the places that need changing to make the
code work in the second location.

http://www.sined.co.uk/tmp/fortune4t.html

contains various methods of displaying characters with a timeout,
hopefully one of them might do what you're looking for.

I'm sure that other real coders can come up with several different
methods of doing the same thing, and I also have no doubt that some
people will have no contribution whatsoever to make but will attempt to
display the pretence of great knowledge by declaring that every method
I've used is flawed in some way whilst resolutely failing to actually
suggest what they think is the correct method, or even a valid way, to
achieve the required result.

All being within the scope of usenet, usenet not being a helpdesk per se.

You declaring you are "sure" falls in the same acceptable category.

This absolute "the correct method" without the addendum "for me" is the
ultimate nonsense in programming, me thinks. Beginners asking for such
"correct method" or "best method" should be forgiven by default, but should
be swiftly corrected.

Oh certainly. If I can write six different approaches and have no idea
which is the best way to achieve what I think the OP is trying to
achieve, I'm sure there are others out there who can write other totally
different approaches. Judging the "best" method will be problematical to
say the least, for example innerHTML vs DOM manipulation. I'm tending
towards the latter these days, on the general basis that it's harder to
break the structure of a document as badly using dom manipulation calls
as it is by setting elem.innerHTML to some string that breaks things.

But that comment was also a dig at certain posters who seem to only ever
post criticism of other people's code, whilst never actually offering any
code solutions of their own.

Thanks a lot for your help. I will carefully study your comments and Denis's code, and correct my code accordingly. My appreciations.

Best regards.
