I'm pretty certain IE 8 will simply use standards mode as defined by the doctype. Less than IE 8 would of course ignore this. In this case, it wouldn't make a difference.

I don't see any "stretching". The lines differ in length, yes - but not because of "font stretching", but because the text in each line also differs. There is no difference between opening the ind.htm in IE, Firefox or as HTA. -- Arno Welzel http://arnowelzel.de http://de-rec-fahrrad.de

Using a valid doctype and a <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9"> gets the HTA displaying the text exactly the same as IE 9 does. Andrew Poulos

Certainly SEEK.HTA (via <http://www.merlyn.demon.co.uk/programs/32-bit/00index.htm>) can do what an HTM ought to be unable to do. SEEK.(HTA|BAT) are the only routines I know of that can search for hidden files in the current sub-tree whose names contain 'qq' and have sizes between 1087 & 23456 bytes and were last accessed on the Tuesday of an even-numbered week, except for Americans. -- (c) John Stockton, nr London UK. ?@merlyn.demon.co.uk DOS 3.3, 6.20; WinXP.
