I have been using the newserver at news.chello.at for the last 10 or
so years and in November they "deactivated" it. As reading this group
on Google Groups is almost impossible due to the incredible amount of
spam I would be grateful if someone could recommend a decent newserver
in Austria or Germany.

Regards, Steve.

The internet shrinks the world so much that it doesn't really matter
where they are. Having said that, the most popular free/inexpensive
services do happen to be in Germany and Austria.

There is an inexpensive pay-for service at http://news.individual.net/
which is often recommended and is in Berlin.

For free services, the two I use are Eternal September and Albasani:
http://www.eternal-september.org/ - Bad Homburg, Germany.
http://www.albasani.net/ - Neuhofen, Austria

Cheers
Tony

I use Eternal September, too. They had a bit of a problem
recently, but are quite reliable. Support (in their newsgroups) is
friendly when there is an issue.

Sincerely,

I've been using news.individual.net for many years now.

It costs less than $20 per year. I have never had any problems with their
service.

another +1 for news.individual.net. I've also been a happy user for years.

To be fair, ES's issue was minor and short. I expect any service
can have hiccups on occasion. One advantage of imperfect service is
that you get to see what the support is like.

Sincerelky,

Gene Wirchenko

Thanks to all for your recommendations. I am now registered with Eternal

Happy Holidays,

With a good newsreader, one can use different servers for different
groups. Indeed, that can be essential, because (IIRC) Mozilla does not
peer, so to post here you must use a non-Mozilla server, and to get the
attention of the Mozilla locals you mist use Mozilla's server.

For those who prefer Italians, <http://aioe.org/> is in Rome - or at
least its letter-box is. I use mainly AIOE and E-S.

It is well to have more than one server available.
