IMnsHO Web Workers are the biggest piece of shite to come out of HTML5 
since WebSockets! (And that's saying something :-O)

But, for the sake of argument, just some of the painful restrictions of 
Web Workers can be found at : -

Eg: -
Workers do NOT have access to:
  ■The DOM (it's not thread-safe)
  ■The window object
  ■The document object
  ■The parent object

Anyway, this is a Windows-ONLY bug and soon to be Internet Explorer-ONLY 
bug! Java threads and the full Applet SandBox continue to offer up the 
feature-rich environment they always have!

I hope to have more good news soon but in an attempt to further justify 
my requirement please look to the ASYNC flag on the XMLHTTPRequest 
object. I believe similar FF and IE issues are observable with the FALSE 
option on Windows 7.
