The dual select is particularly odd - seems as if the size attribute 
gets completely ignored. The "before" select comes with this markup and 
is not "tainted" via JS:

Could be. For one I don't care too much about the more obscure modes IE 
offers (I even don't care for quirks mode, since my pages never come in 
this mode), and I suppose this would be a CSS issue, and not a JS problem.
