I think that this is not a JavaScript matter, since (a) JavaScript is
not the only language which a browser can use, (b) Browsers are not the
only possible hosts for JavaScript.

You should ignore that which is spouted here by the inadequately-
educated about copyright. Copyright requires some sort of creative
effort in the part of the originator of the work, be it a person or a
corporate body; and a breach of copyright occurs when the product of
that creative work is copied with retention of the substance of that
creativity. You have the right to make a creatively-composed bitmap
image of yourself and friends, and you will then hold the copyright.
That copyright will apply to conversions of the image into GIF, JPEG,
PNG, etc. (and into ink-on-paper); but it will not apply to the result
of doing a binary sort of a digital form - even though, for a
sufficiently-high resulution image, the result of the sort will be
almost always unique among binary files in general and sorts-of-images
in particular.

Additionally, while (to the best of my understanding) Copyright laws are
similar across most of the world, it is not safe to assume that they are
equivalent in all jurisdictions.

Have you considered the possibility or otherwise of doing what you want
in a .HTA page? Or in Windows Script[ing] Host? I have not, to any
significant extent.
