I don't think zo, IF .....

If this zero is used to generate an error response to the user,
it is acceptable.  

I would even add not-a-number to the zero response.

Believing without reasonable substatiation is bad practice.

But why [and where?] report this, 
[even while unbelievable], 
it being common practice in this world?
