Audio autoplay in IE 9

I'm dynamically creating an AUDIO element with

var audio = document.createElement("audio");
audio.id = "audio01";
audio.src = "sample.mp3";
audio.autoplay = true;
audio.loop = false;
document.body.appendChild(audio);
audio = null;

but the audio never starts until I call

document.getElementById("audio01").play();

Is there some "trick" to getting the audio to autoplay/start in IE 9?
