Sorry - what does this mean? How do I set the URL of the local site? The root directory for the site will be /var/www/html , where the HTML files will be uploaded (or, in this case, simply *created*), and then going to localhost in the browser will show me the site...? That's the way it works out-of-the-box in CentOS...... - you mean I can set a *URL* for the local site on top of that?? 
Does this mean poking about with /etc/hosts or something? Why would this be necessary?
(I know you said no LAMP questions, but really, I think this is relevant....)
