I just wanted to know which, if any, part of it actually answered my question.

He does not seem to have noticed that a part of the code, while legitimate code, did not express what I would presumably want.  The code I showed sets the size of the image to "10%", which FF29 at least takes as 10% of the viewport size.  The viewport is generally not square, so square pictures give non-square thumbnails.  It is that which I must tackle next.
