The form is prevented from being submitted when the control has a value that does not comply with the specification of “valid e-mail address” in HTML5 [1], which is a different thing than an invalid e-mail address. I am not sure it is a bad idea to disable the submit button if the value is not considered appropriate; it certainly is better to do that if a custom message should be shown on input already, as it prevents user errors. >> Is there any way to check the input field has correctly validated > > without re-checking using a regular expression? > > Yes. Insufficient, unfortunately. “x@y” passes the built-in validation [1], but e-mails to that "address" cannot reasonably be delivered. The roundtrip should be avoided by rejecting such values on the client side already. Also, one must consider the possibility that the “email” value for the “type” attribute is unsupported. _________ [1] <http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/CR-html5-20140204/forms.html#valid-e-mail-address> -- PointedEars FAQ: <http://PointedEars.de/faq> | SVN: <http://PointedEars.de/wsvn/> Twitter: @PointedEars2 | ES Matrix: <http://PointedEars.de/es-matrix> Please do not Cc: me. / Bitte keine Kopien per E-Mail.
