I am going to need a template engine which is, as much as possible, java specific and HTML specific. I don't need general purpose templates, but ones which still look like HTML code Being more general is a negative feature for me. Working with platforms other than Java is negative, too. From what I have seen Thymeleaf might be what I need. Is there something else similar to it ?

By its very nature, they are least reusable of all the code in typical web app project, it is something that one writes over and over again, so they should be as tidy as possible. After some thought, I decided to give JSTL a shot. JSTL is not a template system like Velocity or Framemaker, but might be able to keep code clean enough. I have considered it in the past, but done nothing, so far,

JSTL only provides the features in JSTL. Arne

Terminology: taglib = JSTL + custom taglib JSTL = Java Standard Tag Lib = taglibs that comes with the web container = c + fmt + sql + x + fn + tlv custom taglib = user provided taglib Arne

Most people here has probably experience with JSP. But JSSP (I assume is http://jssp.sourceforge.net/) it not a widely used product - also note that its latest release is called "0.2 beta". Arne

The project is around for quite a long time.

I think though that you'll find general features indeed solve for your specific use-cases far better than something that is "specific" for a set of someone else's use-cases. > Working with platforms other than Java is negative, too. This one I don't understand at all. "I want to use something that works on Java" makes sense, but then saying "It can't have a PHP port" is just ridiculous. Perhaps you could expand on your lower-level use-cases which you think suggests that you have to restrict yourself in such a strange way.

Short explanation: less specific often means more configuration and/or more boilerplate code.
