I would think adding _nn after the string would only be for minor patches. I don't think they've had more than 99 updates for one Java version before. If they name it 1.8.0_100 that should annoy some people since "100" < "90". > > Java 9 coming soon > > March 2017 is the latest ETA I believe. > > Arne Java 8 has been out for many months. I thought the schedule was one major version per year.

Ah the big money builds. I just use free Java, which requires you to use new major versions, and I don't recall seeing > 99. If they've used 100+ on the extended Java, where you can pay them to support a single major version, it seems they're soon going to make a 100+ for the free updates. This seems short sighted. If they want to put out so 100+ minor versions, the current version 92 should be 1.8.0_092, so when they get to 1.8.0_102 it will still sort correctly alphabetically.

It did not prevent them from going 1.8.0_5 to 1.8.0_11. >>> Java 9 coming soon >> >> March 2017 is the latest ETA I believe. > > Java 8 has been out for many months. Not the first big IT project to get delayed. :-) Arne

I know that they went from 8u5 to 8u11, but that does not really say anything about the 1.8.0_* numbering. Mea culpa. Arne

In fact the documentation state nn. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/versioning-naming-139433.html <quote> The two digits following the underbar indicate the update number. The higher the number, the more recent the update. </quote> > Mea culpa. Yes. Arne

Makeing all the string sorters happy. But I guess the age:61 cannot be fixed, towards age:99 there will EoPU or something. Bye
