When I sign the JNLP, the runtime complains my external and internal
JNLP files do not match. FC.exe says they precisely match.

Is the fool thing wanting the external jnlp file to have a magic name?

Yes, "JavaFX".

For one thing, the "internal" one needs a special name (all uppercase
and case matters).

For the other thing, what exactly *did* you run FC.exe on?
 - on the copy of your external jnlp on the server, or
 - on a downloaded version of the external jnlp on the client?

I've seen a servlet that would transform the jnlp upon download,
replace meta-variables and eliminate linefeeds... You might
need to account for these transformations in the "internal" copy.

I
extracted the JNLP file from the jar locally, and I downloaded a copy
from the server of the external JNLP
