Probably "Yes," given suitable preconditions.

Lacking them, probably "No."

The only input I think is needed is an input stream and its encoding

 > Lacking them, probably "No."

I spent some time trying to find an implementation of such a thing,
which I think shouldn't be a big deal at least in the case that you
don't use regex, just strings to find ...

It seems, Java's implementations of matchers touch the string more
than once (I have run a few tests buffering the file into char arrays
the monkey way)

I think the data strat of such an algo is based on a graph/decision
tree, which are used in state machines and such things

  Unless I am missing something

That's a possibility. I repeat: pisppmd.

Perhaps you'd have more luck if you repeated it, but this time in English.

The original question, in its totality, was

I'm merely trying to reply in kind.

All Google could tell me about it was that it meant that the OP is
apparently into sado/maso gimp sex play, whatever that might be.

Exactly! I haven't found better google hits than those to profile me.
Great Lord! You don't even need the NSA, google + people's hominid
stupidity will do just fine!

However, I didn't need google to notice when/how we, apparently
technical people, behave like moronic politicians and lawyers

  My half cent.

I've had little contact with politicians, but as for lawyers:
One thing I've noticed about them is that they ask *very* well-
framed questions.

That's an area in which many of us could improve ...
