What is the gcc-java good for these days ? I am interested in creating simple command line apps which parse text, manipulate files and connect to sockets. Basically, JDK 1.1 stuff. Will it work ? I am interested in native code binaries on Linux x86 and x86-64 platforms. According to description, it can be done. Are those standalone or do they depend on some shared libraries ? I'd like to copy and use them on other Linux machines. My C++ and C are way too rusty, to start again with it.

Will it work ? Yesterday, GCJ was removed from the GCC sources. You can always use an older version, of course, but chances that you receive community support and bug fixes are very slim.
