In the old days, you had a separate JNLP file. You invoked the JNLP
file which loaded the JWS app.

Now, they want you to put the JNLP file inside the Jar file and sign
the lot.

How are you supposed to invoke the app?

1. with a free-standing duplicate copy of the JNLP?

2. with some sort of <OBJECT syntax on the jar file?

be smart enough to understand them.

What they WANT is for you and everyone else to stop using Webstart, I
think. I cannot otherwise fathom why they continually make it worse and
worse. The user experience is already horrible to a point where I would
never recommend it to anyone under any circumstances.

Spot on. Web Start, applets, Swing etc. are all legacy technologies, if not
officially deprecated.

Oracle wants you to use JavaFX and nothing else and, if I were you, I would
stop wasting my time with anything else but that.
