Java was never that big on the desktop.

Yes - they did say that the long term want to drop
support for AWT/Swing (will be supported in Java 11
until 2026) and JavaFX (will be supported in Java 8
until 2022).

But they also said that they were investigating options.

A model with a basic JDK/JRE as a bottom layer and then
having various silos on top of that:
* Java EE
* Java desktop
* etc.
could in my opinion be a good model.

Question is whether there is sufficient interest for
desktop to make it happen.
