It should not.

The JDBC specs define:
- drivers provide DataSource and Connection for non-pooled connections
- drivers provide ConnectionPoolDataSource and PooledConnection to
   deliver connections to a pool
- the application server provides the pool

Documentation seems to indicate that the MS JDBC driver complies.
