Interesting, and fair comment in its comparison of C and Python, except
for one point: if you're parsing a file (could be a configuration file)
and want to find and report each error in it by giving a line number and
error text, I don't think that exceptions help a lot with simplifying the
error handling code, though of course, if you're allowed to stop after
the first error that using a try..catch structure makes life a lot easier.

However, I thought his comparison of Awk and Python missed the point
quite badly in that much of the power of Awk is provided by not having to
bother about reading the file, splitting it into words, worrying about
writing code that does the same as 'next' or 'nextfile' verbs. IIRC
you'd also have to add code to handle line selection in Python to handle
the selection logic implied in awk by simply writing a

  /regex/ { action }

pair. The same can be said about RPG3 (shudder) or any number of 4GL
report generators.

I don't particularly dislike Python: IMO its preferable to Perl, but if
you're ripping a log or other sequential text file apart, I think awk
beats both of those hands down. And, when it comes to OO programming, I
much prefer Java to Python
