You can't.  Use overloading instead.


    public static void main()
    {
       size( "test" );
       size( new String[]{ "test" } );
       size( new String[][]{ { "test" } } );
    }

    private static void size( Object test )
    {
    }

    private static void size( Object[] test )
    {
    }

    private static void size( Object[][] test )
    {
    }
