Point is there's a reason those 2 methods exist.  You don't just write a method that does nothing but call another method.  I believe SwingUtilities came first in an early Java version and is now obsolete, so when they rewrote it into the new package as EventQueue they left the old method for compatibility which now just calls the new one.

So is an exception from main different from System.exit?  It depends on the application.  Is something calling the main that can handle the exception?  Is something running the class that's looking for the exit code?  Did we use to run Java from command line that checked exit codes and now we have a new method to trap exceptions that is replacing the exit code logic which is slowly becoming obsolete?
